Our starting point for sustainable living is to reduce what we use. Activities that need energy are powered by technology that has the least detrimental environmental impact. Our electricity is generated by solar panels and we also use the sun’s energy to heat water for showers. We make use of solar cookers and solar food dryers whenever possible. Water is pumped up from our local river by means of a water powered ram pump. We re-use or recycle most of our rubbish, and all of our organic waste goes back into the ground as compost or into composting toilets. The project boasts solar powered broadband and Wi-fi which is available to visitors for one Euro an hour (access may be radically reduced in the winter). |

Our commitment to low impact living and the semi arid conditions mean that life here is quite different to most northern European lifestyles. If you´re trying to imagine what your visit will be like think of something a bit like indoor camping but usually quite a bit more comfortable. The project uses four original rural spanish houses with considerable thermal mass. If you are coming for the winter bring plenty of warm clothing as only some of the houses are heated. If you're passing through or living in the area and would like to visit for the day and have a tour please get in touch via the ´contact us´ page. |
