Part-Time Volunteers (PTVs)

PTVs come to Sunseed for between two and five weeks. They work a minimum 24 hours a week, usually 4 hours a day in the mornings Monday to Saturday and have the afternoons and Sundays free. They may work in any of our departments and, within reason, get the chance to choose what they wish to do each day.

Full-time Volunteers (FTVs)

FTVs join for five weeks or more and work for 7 hours a day, Monday to Friday. The cost diminishes as the stay lengthens. FTV will also work in the afternoons, either in one of our departments assisting with ongoing work or with their chosen project work. For students this can be academic work contributing to a university or college course.

Who can visit Sunseed?

Disabled visitors

We live in a very rough terrain. Getting around the project site is relatively demanding. There are many steps and uneven paths to get to work sites and it’s a long way to the compost toilets. If you have limited mobility or are a wheelchair user your access would be restricted, but if you’re willing to try please contact us and we can discuss how we might accommodate you.

Older visitors

Our eldest visitor to date was 87. The steps and rough terrain were a little tricky, but we provided assistance and devised a temporary compost toilet arrangement. Older people are very welcome at Sunseed. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions you may have.

Children and young people

We welcome under 16s accompanied by a responsible adult. The site can be dangerous for children, with rough and sometimes slippery paths and steps, unfenced terraces and proximity to the river, so guardians must be responsible for their children’s safety. Those aged 16/17 may come unaccompanied but must have their parent/guardians consent.
