This weekend course will introduce the participants into the theoretical background and needs for waste water purification. At the same time it will provide practice for the construction itself and leave the attendees with knowledge directly applicable in their homes.
Waste water characteristics. Waste water types (yellow, grey, black). Cycle of nutrients. Aerobic versus anaerobic decomposition. Common household pollutants and how to avoid them. Treatment systems. Stages of a treatment system. Preliminary treatment (water saving, compost toilet). Primary treatments (grease trap, septic tank). Secondary treatments (vertical filter, horizontal filter, reed bed, wetland, cascade ponds). End uses (after-treatment, reuse). Practical designs. Waste water treatment case studies. Sunseed waste water treatment system tour. Design your own waste water treatment system. Do it yourself. Building a waterproof ferro-cement tank. Making a retention tank with automatic discharge.
The price of the course is 200€ including full (vegetarian) board from dinner on Thursday 28th to Sunday 31st lunch, as well as accommodation (from Thursday to Saturday)

This course will be run in English and Spanish. You need no previous experience or knowledge to join a course with us – all are welcome. In addition to learning lots of new things you will also be part of a low impact community in the beautiful surroundings of Los Molinos del Rio de Aguas in Southern Spain. FOR JOINING A COURSE BOOKING IS NEEDED
- Refunds up to two weeks prior to course (minus 30 euro admin fee).
- No refunds for cancellations within two weeks of course.
- If there’s not a minimum of bookings, course will canceled and refunds will be 100%.
- A 10% surcharge will be applied for air travel.
