Most of the courses will be run in English and Spanish.

You need no previous experience or knowledge to join a course with us – all are welcome. In addition to learning lots of new things you will also be part of a low impact community in the beautiful surroundings of Los Molinos del Rio de Aguas in Southern Spain.

Home made Bread & Jam Course

  • 27th FEBRUARY
  • Mimi Prell will be running an intensive one-day course on how to make organic bread & jam in home made way.
  • The course will combine hands–on baking & preserving fruits with an understanding of what is going on:
  • Bread Making:
  • Different rising methods: sourdough and yeast.
  • Several flour types including wholemeal, rye, spelt...
  • Working dough
  • Different presentational styles and flavourings
  • Jam making:
  • Picking & selecting fruits from Sunseed gardens
  • Preparing & sterilizing the jar.
  • Cooking jam: use of fruit and combinations of spices.

Mimi is keen to help people develop a feel for the subject so they can experiment in their own bread & jam making. After this course you’ll be confident you can make delicious, healthy bread that rises, and you’ll come away with a loaf of bread and a jar of jam. We will provide all ingredients, some notes, vegetarian lunch and Guided tour to Sunseed Project.

The course will start at 10.00 and finish at 17.00.

Practical Permaculture

5th to 9th APRIL A 5-day course with theory and many practical hands-on activities to learn and live Permaculture. This short course is for people: - who have already plunged a bit into the world of permaculture - who want to refresh their knowledge - who want to learn, see and experience how permaculture works in practice - who want to get ready to do the full 72-hour Design Course in the near future... - anybody interested permaculture and why it is an excellent and easy-to-learn approach to sustainability The course will be geared to the interests of the participants. Including: ethics of permaculture, principles of designing permaculture, exercises combining theory and practice as well as how to apply this knowledge. The intention of the facilitators of the course is not to to teach-for-teachings-sake. They want to empower YOU to take responsibility for your life and the lives of your children, so that we leave a better world than we found when we started. Do you want to learn about how to do this? Basics on solar energy - PV photovoltaic

27th - 28th APRIL

A 2-day course with Csaba Zagoni, our Appropriate Technology Co-ordinator, about the theory and practice of solar electric systems.

This is a basic introductory course to anyone that wants to start to learn about solar electric systems, understand how they work, components, tools and equipment.

The course starts on Friday at 9am and finishes on Saturday at 5pm.

Fee: 100€. It includes materials, all meals (vegetarian) from Friday to Saturday lunch and accommodation on Friday.

Discount available if you take part on the Design & installation of PV Systems course.

There are maximum 8 places. Booking needed.

Design & Installation of PV systems

29th APRIL to 1 MAY

Run by Csaba Zagoni, Appropriate Technologies Coordinator at Sunseed.

Designing and installing off-grid photovoltaic panel systems. A 3-day course with theory and practice about:

- how do PV modules work?

- designing off-grid PV systems

- quantifying power requirements

- system components (charge controllers, inverters, batteries)

Plus

- assess the solar resource

- test PV modules

- take part in a step-by-step installation

- learn about different systems at Sunseed

The course starts on Sunday at 9am and finishes on Tuesday at 5pm.

Fee: 150€. It includes materials, all meals (vegetarian) from Sunday to Tuesday lunch and accommodation (Sunday & Monday).

Discount available if you take part on the Basic on solar energy Course.

Price of the 2 courses: 230€

Solar Oven Building Course

  • 28th & 29th APRIL
  • Organised by Cortijo El Saltador,
  • collaborating with Sunseed.
  • Two day Course to learn how to build a low cost solar oven, with recycled, cheap materials and simple techniques.
  • Run by Jef Carrick – Sunseed Coordinator
  • The course will take place in Cortijo El Saltador in Lucainena de las Torres, in Almeria Province.
  • The price of the course is 60€
  • It doesn't includes food or lodging.

Thermal Mass Kachelofen (German Stove) Course

  • 11th to 17th MAY
  • Run by Jef Carrick.
  • A five days course in learning how to design and construct your own thermal mass heater for home installation.
  • Thermal mass stoves work by fast burning wood to heat the thermal mass of the stove, radiating slowly for several hours, providing a much more pleasant heat than conventional convection heating from wood burning stoves. Thermal mass stoves are extremely efficient at converting the calorific value of wood into heat, achieving efficiencies of around 90% compared to 20% for open fireplaces.

Booking conditions & discounts to all courses

Refunds up to two weeks prior to course (minus 30euro admin fee).

No refunds for cancellations within two weeks of course.

Course attendees are eligible to a reduction of 20% of the normal volunteer fee if wishing to stay at Sunseed as volunteers for a period of 1-3 weeks before of after the course.

A 10% surcharge will be applied for air travel.
