The work in Sunseed Desert Technologies is divided in 6 departments which are managed by coordinators. These work together as a team to guarantee the development of the project. If you are interested in working as a volunteer coordinator in Sunseed, these vacancies are available for one year and will be published in different sites in Internet, also including ours. To know whether you are eligible for these vacancies look at the job descriptions of each department and also look the General for Volunteer Work. The work will be for one year minimum and can be renewed after a favorable first year. Please keep in mind that we can only accept candidates that can stay in the EU for one year or more, and that we can not help with the process to obtain a visa card.

Facilitation Coordinator

Sunseed Desert Technology is now looking for a volunteer for the post of Facilitation Coordinator. Sunseed is a British project based in Spain that aims to develop, demonstrate and communicate low impact ways of life methods accessible and of simple technology in a semi-arid environment.

Background

Sunseed is a lively international community and educational project of volunteer staff and volunteers living with the local environment.

Living in Sunseed as a member of the community means more than just doing your job properly, you are expected to put first your environment and your personal needs after.

Our values of using appropriate and low impact methods and technologies make Sunseed an interesting place to be and learn. Volunteers and staff volunteers learn and participate together creating a smaller environmental footprint. At the same time there is an ‘invisible learning’ journey. Leaving the comfort zones and supporting a communal way of life the volunteer staff are exposed to and enhanced to live a low impact life more successfully.

The goal of this role is to have a general vision of the project development and department activities to inform the staff and to be able to improve collective decision making on the short and mid term, based on the Project Annual Plan.

You will be the first contact for all perspective volunteers, mostly through email, including course participants. You will make sure that their journey to the project ends well, and that they have a guided tour through the project, and supervise the short term volunteers during their stay to help them optimize their time in Sunseed.

You will need basic book keeping knowledge to create monthly expenses and incomes records for staff and administrators.

The Project Facilitator will supervise that the project is running smoothly and will look for ways to improve the experience at Sunseed. This includes getting started for the new staff making sure that all staff has all the necessary information about how Sunseed is organized and their role in it.

Volunteer Assistants

Sunseed is currently not looking for any assistants

Voluntary work conditions

The voluntary work conditions for volunteer assistants include meals (vegetarian) and accommodation in the houses of Sunseed in Los Molinos. The minimum contract is 3 months, where the first one is a trial period. After those 3 months, there is the possibility from both parts to confirm the agreement, if an assistant is still needed. Working hours are normally 35 hours/week, but living in the project means compromising in something demanding more than a normal working day. It can include anything from cleaning blocked pipes to digging in the irrigation line. You will be entitled to 2 days off every worked month plus the Spanish bank holidays. It is required from those visiting the Project in the EU to bring an E111 form authorized or equivalent, which you can find in any Post Office, to cover possible medical local expenses and to have an updated vaccination against tetanus.

The staff can get a medical and travel additional insurance to cover the stay in Sunseed. For more information on our departments, please visit Our Departments on the top menu.

We are looking for someone experienced in fundraising: vegetarian food and accommodation for your work to support “Friends of Sunseed”, turning it into a Donors/activists network. Do you have experience in fundraising and marketing, developing monthly donors networks? Can you have your own initiative to develop a fundraising base for Sunseed, using a very limited budget, access to the office and other resources? This vacancy for volunteer staff includes some generic work responsibilities which you can find in more detail on the Assistant Role (see below). This job is offered as a renewable 3 month contract with both parts agreement. As an assistant, you will work in the Communication and Education department (CE). You will also work together with Administrators, project Coordinators and Departments.
