Frequently asked questions

Can I join you?

Yes! Please navigate to the 'Get involved' section to learn more about different ways of becoming part of the project and follow the instructions (previous booking / specified arrival days / applications for becoming a staff member/Erasmus+ program participant). Spontaneous showing-up is a no go, please respect our communal daily life rhythm.

What is my money used for?

Please navigate to the this section. Here you find everything explained about where your money goes and how we keep our project alive.

How to get to Sunseed?

Have a look at the map to know where we are. If you use Google Maps, tyoe in 'Sunseed Desert Technology', since our village Los Molinos can not be found by Maps.

Try travelling by land using public transport to minimise CO2 emissions:

  1. The local company alsa.es offers transport from Almería and Murcia to the closest town Sorbas. To get to Almería or Murcia you can search for a rail connection on renfe.es
  2. You can also share a car using blablacar.es. You can either search a ride to Sorbas or look for a popular connection Almería Málaga - Vera / Murcia / Alicante and hop off here (salida 504)

  3. Have a scenic 1 hour hike from the point of your Blablacar drop off to Sunseed!

The closest airports are: Almería, Murcia, Granada, Málaga, Alicante. We don't organise airport pickups.

Can I bring my dog or other animals?

We have no pet policy for visitors. They are not allowed indoors as current or future Sunseeders might be allergic and for sanitary reasons. On top of that, there are many animals in the village that do not belong to Sunseed, we have no supervision over them and they might not get along well with your companion. If you wish to visit us, please leave your pet under the care of someone trusted in the place that you live.

How many people live in Sunseed?

Sunseed is a transient group and the number of people staying here is changing on a daily basis. The number of inhabitants can go down to 10 in the low season, and up to 30 in the high season.

Can children or minors come to Sunseed?

Unfortunately not. We do not have the facilities and appropriate structures for children in our community. If you come for a course or educational visit with minors, this can be arranged with the community, but we can not offer people to join our community with their children.

I have a disability, can I come?

What tasks will I be involved in?

The tasks are changing depending on the season and project's priorities. Have a look at the Departments page to get an overview. If you have concrete expectations about your stay please send us an email to confirm that the area of your interest will be covered during your stay.

Can I arrive on a different day than Tuesday?

Arrival days are only on Tuesdays. Departure days are flexible. If you can absoluetely only arrive on a different day, keep in mind that we can not pick you up and you will have to wait until the next Tuesday to receive your arrival presentation and your tour on Wednesdays. In order for us to not have more work by doing the presentation and tour on an extra day for you, we ask you to arrive on the first Tuesday of the month. If you choose to arrive on a weekend, keep in mind that there might not be someone here to welcome you or show you around as these are our off-days.

Will you pick me up when I arrive and drop me off when I leave?

We organise pickups and drop offs on Tuesdays only. We will drive to Sorbas to pick you up and bring you back there in time for your bus. You might still be able to get a ride on a different day, but then you have to pay for that ride.

Pickups sometimes have to wait a bit, because we go shopping on that day and run errands. No matter which bus you choose to arrive with, morning or afternoon, we got you!

When you leave on a Tuesday, we will bring you to your bus in time, even the early ones.

Can I camp, bring my tent, hammock, camper van or car?

Camping or camper vans are not allowed since we live in a protected natural reserve. Camping or setting up a tent is strictly forbidden in this area. You can bring your hammock or biwak (sleeping without tent), but if you stay here longer we ask you to use our houses to sleep in.

You can bring your car and park it in our private village parking spot. Please ask us first as we might not have enough space for your car.

Do you offer work exchanges?

We do not offer work exchanges. Our community members each contribute to the community with their work, take part and host weekly educational activities, workshops and other events. If you are interested in joining the team please have a look at our staff vacancies page.

Can I bring visitors once I'm in the community?

Co-learning residents can not bring visitors. Staff members, interns and ESC volunteers can bring a visitor only if they directly know this person. Visitors always have to be brought to the communal meeting asking the community for consent.

If you have physical limitations please bear in mind that the village terrain is very uneven, with lots of steps and most areas are not wheelchair accessible. If you have a hidden disability, please contact us and we can tell you more about what's possible for you and how you can feel comfortable here.

Our staff are not trained in hosting people with physical disabilities or mental health problems, so we would ask you to email us first to discuss your needs and we will do our best to accommodate you.
