Ecosystem Restoration
Assistant position
The department's objectives are focused on drylands stewardship, environmental education, conservation and restoration of the biodiverse local ecosystem, with its autochthonous plant communities. We research and apply techniques for prevention of soil erosion, increase of water infiltration, soil fertility, conservation and support of local biodiversity.
Learn about semi-arid drylands through learning about the decolonial approaches and actions of land stewardship, how to learn from and work with the semi-arid ecosystem, its unique climate, geology, and all the life that animates it, tree pruning, drystone walling, seed bank maintenance, path maintenance, composting, and sustainable foraging.
Duration: 3 - 9 months
Commitment: full-time
Core Responsibilities

Assisting with soil erosion prevention actions and restoring vegetal cover of the land

Assisting with our low-tech plant nursery, the appropriate growth of shrubs, trees and herbs, and help with transplanting them

Help taking care of the irrigation system and watering trees

Go on foraging walks, collect seeds, leaves, flower and fruits

Help with pruning and harvesting

Take care of maintenance like restoring paths, building drystone walls, fences and steps

Help manege the humanure
Requirements

Experience and knowledge of dryland ecosystems, land restoration, water management, geology and/or any related areas

Tolerance of hard physical work in hot conditions

Curiosity and excitement about semi-arid drylands, tree care and soil management
-
Caring relationship to plants and the land
