Volunteering

Join our community to experience off-grid living
We are currently accepting volunteers for November and throughout 2024!
============
We ask for a commitment of at least two weeks, although a full month is preferably both for your experience and for the community as a whole.

As a volunteer in Sunseed you’ll spend your time working on daily tasks that need to be done for the maintenance of our land and spaces. Next to working in the community, you'll have space to relax, socialise, work on your own project, explore the area, go on hikes, swim in the beautiful poza, or join other activities that are happening within Sunseed.

While you are here you will:
- Experience community life
- Choose a department & volunteer. Right now, we're looking for help in the drylands, the organic gardens, the eco-maintenance team, and the sustainable living department.
- Participate in 1-2 workshops per week (Degrowth, Facilitation Techniques, Seed collecting in the drylands, Fermentation, painting with traditional materials, and more)

Sample Daily routine (Mon-Fri, as you have weekends off):
9am: breakfast
9.30am: morning circle
10am-13pm: working with the department teams
13-14pm: break
14pm: lunch
Afternoon: siesta
17-20pm: work with the departmental teams
20.30pm: Dinner

Other useful information to know:
 - You will be sleeping in a dorm with other volunteers.
 - Off-grid living, so we are dependent on the sun for hot showers and electricity. No flushing toilets - we use dry compost toilets.
 - You'll be part of a community, which means that we ask you to participate in the cleaning and cooking weekly rota, take responsibility for your actions and words, use non-violent communication, respect each other's views, etc
 - Vegetarian project (no meat or fish on-site)
 - No-chemical policy (please don't bring any cosmetics / toothpaste / shampoo etc that is not fully biodegradable. We provide natural shampoo, soap and toothpaste)
 - Weather: we are in a semi-arid environment so be prepared for strong Spanish sun and cold winters in the valley!
 - Cost: 15 euros per person per day (includes all food and accommodation - this is to help us cover the running costs of the project, see below information on 'What does my contribution cover').

Arrival dates:

What does my contribution cover?

ORGANIC
FOOD

From Monday to Friday we serve three vegetarian meals a day plus snacks. Food on the weekends is self-organised with the use of our supplies. 15-20% of the food comes from our gardens. The rest is bought from local farmers and regional ecological producers.

EDUCATIONAL
ACTIVITIES

Our team offer a range of activities depending on the departments' needs. You can get involved with gardening, eco-maintenance, drylands management and more. You can also take on a personal project if you have a specific skill.

ACCOMMODATION &
MAINTENANCE

Your payment covers accommodation in our dormitory, clean bed sheets, the use of natural cosmetics and administration costs. Our houses are maintained in the traditional Andalucian style.

FIXED
COSTS

To provide an educational experience for visitors from around the world we have many hidden costs - rent, insurance, taxes, website hosting, phones, internet, car maintenance, staff reimbursement and more. Your contribution will help us to continue running Sunseed.
