Sunseed has just recently welcomed its first European Voluntary Service volunteers. For six months, Joanne from the UK, Claudia and Andreia from Portugal will be with us sharing in the Sunseed experience.

To host volunteers from EVS is a positive step forward for Sunseed as a project, and hopefully something that will grow from strength to strength. The European Volunteer Service an opportunity for young people up to the age of 30 to receive a rich and once in a lifetime volunteering experience. Financed by the European Union, the EVS scheme aims to encourage active citizenship, informal learning through action and cooperation, the importance of promoting solidarity, tolerance and knowledge sharing as well as the development of international respect for current and future generations. Values and ideas which Sunseed fully share.

Our philosophy at Sunseed is learning by doing, and is a source of knowledge for many people, especially young people, who after spending sometime in Sunseed, realise that they themselves are agents of change in our society. The various tasks and daily work that we do, from working in the garden to cooking for a group, to public speaking, to developing a project with the help of a coordinator, are factors that motivate and empower the volunteers. Thanks to the fact that all the activities take place communally with people from different backgrounds and origins, the volunteers have the opportunity to discover and experience the beauty and benefits of team work, as well as youth social participation. These ideas have been practiced for almost thirty years at Sunseed and it is great that the EVS scheme has recognised this.
So we welcome Andreia, Joanne and Claudia to our project and really hope that they have the full EVS experience with us over the next 6 months!
Sunseed acaba de dar la bienvenida a sus primeros voluntarios del Servicio de Voluntariado Europeo (EVS). Durante seis meses, Joanne del Reino Unido, Claudia y Andreia de Portugal estarán con nosotros compartiendo la experiencia de Sunseed.

Tener con nosotros a los voluntarios de EVS es un paso adelante positivo para Sunseed como proyecto, y esperamos que esto sea algo que vaya a más. El Servicio de Voluntariado Europeo es una oportunidad para que jóvenes de hasta 30 años reciban una experiencia de voluntariado rica y por una vez en la vida. financiado por la Unión Europea, el esquema EVS busca promover la ciudadanía activa, el aprendizaje informal a través de la acción y cooperación, la importancia de promover la solidaridad, la tolerancia y compartir el conocimiento así como el desarrollo del respeto internacional para generaciones actuales y venideras. Valores que Sunseed comparte completamente.

Nuestra filosofía en Sunseed es aprender mientras se hace, y es una fuente de conocimiento para mucha gente, especialmente para jóvenes, quienes después de pasar algún tiempo en Sunseed se dan cuenta de que ellos mismos son agentes de cambio en nuestra sociedad. Las diversas tareas y el trabajo diario que hacemos, desde trabajar en los huertos o cocinar para un grupo, a hablar en público o desarrollar un proyecto con la ayuda de un coordinador, son factores que motivan y capacitan a los voluntarios. Gracias al hecho de que todas las actividades se realizan en comunidad con gente de diferentes procedencias y orígenes, los voluntarios tienen la oportunidad de descubrir y experimentar la belleza y beneficios del trabajo en equipo, así como la participación social de los jóvenes. Estas ideas se han estado practicando durante casi treinta años en Sunseed y es genial que el proyecto EVS lo haya reconocido.
Así que le damos la bienvenida a Andreia, Joanne y Claudia a nuestro proyecto y de verdad esperamos que tengan una experiencia EVS completa con nosotros durante los próximos seis meses!
